Recipe: Homemade Pizza Rolls for Kids
Mix up your kids’ school lunches with a fun, healthy twist on store-bought pizza rolls. Made with whole grains, veggies, and low-fat, protein-packed cheese, you can feel good about packing your kids “pizza” for lunch. These ready-in-10-minutes rolls are also a great dinner for hungry kiddos when you’re short on time after soccer practice or school play rehearsal. Enjoy!
Serves 1
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 large whole wheat tortilla
- 2 tablespoons marinara sauce
- ¼ cup part skim mozzarella cheese, shredded
Optional:
- ¼ cup ham or salami, finely chopped
- ¼ cup red, yellow and/or orange pepper, diced
- ¼ cup fresh spinach
DIRECTIONS:
For Enjoyment at Home:
- Preheat oven or toaster oven to 400°F.
- Spread sauce evenly over tortilla, leaving a 1-inch border around the outer edge.
- Sprinkle cheese and optional additional toppings evenly over sauce.
- Roll up tortilla, enclosing the fillings. Seal outer edge of tortilla with a few drops of water to prevent unrolling.
- Place in oven until cheese is melted (5-7 minutes).
- Slice into 6 to 8 rolls.
For Enjoyment at School:
- Follow steps 2-4 above.
- Slice cold tortilla into 6-8 rolls and pack in one of our reusable collapsible lunch containers.
